Often, expecting parents ask me when is the best time to do a newborn photo session. My answer to that question might be very different from per your situation and what you prefer, but generally when your little one is 10 days or younger.
The first few days of a new baby are very special and and a one time experience. Consequently, soon after the birth and most parents will likely sleep deprived, our memory quickly becomes foggy. So photographs help you remember he little thinks you do not want to forget. This is when a home session can be very convenient, because you can have a few days of rest before the photos.
Almost always, I would suggest contacting a photographer at least eight weeks before your due date. This is to make sure you are on the schedule, and on another note you have plenty of time to ask questions and get to know them. Also, you may even visit the studio before the arrival of your new baby.
HOW LONG WILL THE SESSION BE?
Be prepared to spend about 2 hours, sometimes a little more or less depending on the baby. Your little one may need time to feel relaxed or get hungry to be ready for a photo.
CAN WE CAPTURE MY ENTIRE FAMILY?
Yes, of course! We encourage a family photo with other children and even pets.
WILL YOU BRING PROPS?
Even better, we have a wide range of props that I will bring with me. Feel free to bring any items you have to the session as well. For example, I often hear “my mom made this blanket, can we use it?”
WHEN SHOULD WE FEED THE BABY?
While it is helpful to feed babies right before my arrival, it sometimes is not enough. If we feel like you baby needs another feeding we will take a time out. Newborn babies are quite often hungry during the photo process.
DO YOU EDIT THE IMAGES?
General editing is included with all baby studio session packages. I recommend bathing baby and using Eucerin Baby lotion on the baby’s skin before your session. Finally acne and flaky skin may occur with newborns but the editing process removes these imperfections.
HOW SHOULD WE DRESS FOR A FAMILY PHOTO?
Likewise, keep it simple with natural and light weight clothes. Neutrals, white, black, and gray are always good colors for parents and siblings to wear with newborns. As a result, this will create classic, timeless portraits from you baby studio session.

I WANT AN IN STUDIO NEWBORN SESSION. DO YOU HAVE A STUDIO?
We have a full service studio located on 718 Venture Drive in Morgantown (right beside Books A Million). Even though we do a lot of work outdoors, studio portraits are important also.
We have all of the customary studio equipment and can bring it with us if you have a special request or need. There is also a private are to change your dresses and clothes.
